Photography is my passion! It is something that seems to be rooted deep inside and as such, running my own photography business for over five years has been a dream come true. But like everyone else, at some point in my life, I did not know one end of a camera to another! It was only after I was given the gift of my first SLR back in the late 80’s that I found a desire to learn more.
Today, we meet so many people who have either purchased or have been gifted a new camera, some even spending a small fortune, yet most struggle to understand how to use it properly. Some have tried to learn about photography through books and manuals, but found it confusing and others say that they feel daunted by formal photography training.
The Beginners Photography Workshop was created to offer a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment for people who have just purchased a new camera or who have maybe had one for a while, but have only ever used it on the auto settings. It enables people to develop a good understanding of their camera and how to capture better images, with the guidance of a professional photographer who is calm, patient and able to offer them some individual support.
ON THE DAY
Once we have introduced ourselves and covered our ground rules, we begin by exploring the basic components of your camera, and the difference between the shooting modes, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority & Manual. We will also look at the components you need to consider when creating your images, such as, Exposure, Lighting, and the impact of good Composition. It will give you a solid understanding of the basics, enabling you to have more control, which will in turn, help you create consistent, beautiful images.
Leading the day will be Owner, and Award Winning, Professional Photographer, Maria Michael who will use a combination of mentor led teaching, discussion, and practical group work. The workshop will also include our in-house model, Christine Statham, who will provide delegates the opportunity to put into practice the different things they have learnt.
Our Photography Workshops are limited to 8 delegates to ensure an intimate and more personal learning experience. The fee includes refreshments and a light lunch. Delegates are welcome to bring additional snacks and drinks with them.

So whilst we do have some heating in place, please remember to dress warmly with plenty of layers, which you can take off or add on throughout the day.
You will need to bring your camera or a camera that you would like to use on the day. This camera must, as a minimum allow you to work on a manual mode. As such some small compact cameras may not be suitable. Please ensure you come with a fully charged battery and an empty memory card! You can also bring extra, charged batteries if you have them and remember to pack your charging cable, just in case.
